Covid-19 Friendly Outdoor Activities to do While in Key West

COVID-19 has really botched up 2020 pretty good, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that your vacation has to cancel. Take in deep (mask-free) breaths on these great outdoor activities during your next Key West trip. Don’t have a trip to Key West in the works? Time to book those flights!

1. Walk the docks on the Historic Seaport Food Tour

Now that Key West no longer requires mask wearing at all times outside your home or vehicle, we can walk the side streets and dine al fresco once more uninhibited. Join a small group of 10 or less on a mostly outdoor progressive dining experience through the local hidden gems of the Key West Historic Seaport. Sip and satiate on 6 different Key West inspired tastings from 11-2pm Monday thru Saturday, and 12-3pm on Sunday’s!

2. Pedal with the wind in your hair

Rent a bike or take a guided bike tour! There’s no way more fun to get around on our tiny island than by bike! Try biking Smather’s beach boardwalk, or even all the way around the island for a fun workout between meals.

3. Jam on the Coffee Butler Lawn

Don’t let this picture deceive you, there’s MORE than enough room to socially distance on the lawn for a super fun, mask-free, outdoor concert experience. Check out their performance calendar here.

4. Picnic at Fort Zachary

Feel secluded at this state park! Pack a lunch and prepare to chill. For some reason (unknown to us locals) Fort Zachary is usually pretty empty, and because of that it makes for a great safe place for you and your family to relax and take in deep, salty breaths of relaxation.

5. Sun on the Sandbar

If you need a break from Duval St, call up Lazy Dog and book a boat and paddle trip out to the shallows! Sandbars abound around the Keys, and there’s no more open space than out on the open water!

6. Stroll the Botanical Garden

Located next to the golf corse, the Key West Botanical Garden serves as a portal back to wild, native Florida. Take the trail through marked rare species once used by our early Native American inhabitants in their daily lives for food, tools, medicines, and clothing.

7. “Smell the roses” at Martello tower

Enjoy a stroll through a flower and butterfly garden along Higgs Beach in this old military-fort-turned-garden. After, maybe dine on the patio at Salute on the Beach right next door!

8. Walk Boca Chica beach & climb the drift wood fort

This pretty, remote beach is another escape from the crowds! Try climbing or simply gawk in wonder at the driftwood fort tucked away there. It’s one of the few beaches around that you can strip those layers off at (if you get our drift-wood).
